In today’s video we have something a bit different than our usual, as this one will feature two different locations from our travels abroad to Germany where we had the opportunity to explore an abandoned morgue and a centuries old crumbling crypt, both creepy but yet intriguing places with some interesting history.
The crypt was located on the outskirts of a small German village. According to local legend, the crypt was built in the late 1800s to honor an influential local family, who were wealthy landowners in the area. They had been a prominent and respected family, however, tragedy struck in the late 1800s when a series of mysterious deaths occurred. The remaining family, devastated by the loss, decided to build the crypt to honor their loved ones and provide them with a final resting place. Over the years, as the family members continued to pass on, eventually nobody was left to help maintain the old family crypt, and it began to fall into serious disrepair. Today, the old crypt has long been neglected and abandoned for several decades, and the bodies inside have been left to decay and rot for over a century.
As we delved deep inside, the stagnant air was thick with the scent of decay and must. The interior was nearly pitch black, and the back walls were lined with old dusty hand made coffins. It was sure a haunting sight, and we couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness for the once influential family that this place was originally built for. We soon found that the legend surrounding the family may in fact be true, especially as we discovered several deteriorating wooden caskets, complete with human skulls, bones, and remains. As we documented the remains, chills ran down our spines as the crypt itself was an imposing structure, with weathered stone and an air of neglect that seemed to hang heavy all around us. We also wanted to be a respectful as possible, so we carefully explored the crypt trying not to touch anything and then cautiously made our exit the exact same way we came in. And once we safely got outside, we were both relieved to have been able to explore such a unique, haunting, but also fascinating location. The old abandoned morgue, which was actually part of a big pathology building, stood at the edge of german town, hidden within a large hospital campus, a relic from a forgotten era, cloaked in shadows and shunned by the living.
Within the sterile tiled walls, a chilling scene awaited our discovery. Two stone autopsy tables stood as lonely sentinels, their surfaces marred by years of use and neglect. On the glass shelves, jars of long preserved human organs lay forgotten along side various glassware and other mortuary chemicals, utensils, and other equipment. Then on a nearby countertop, we couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Sitting with an old organ scale, funnels, and other materials we shockingly found sections of a human spine and a human lung that was suspended in a jar of murky old formaldehyde. Each piece serving as a solemn reminder of life's fragility. Compelled by morbid curiosity, a sense of reverence washed over us; these remnants were once part of vibrant souls, now reduced to mere artifacts. We quickly realized the true weight of history that lingered here, a ghostly echo of humanity's eternal dance with mortality. As we departed, the haunting beauty of this former morgue was forever etched in our minds, a testament to lives once lived, now sitting silent, abandoned, and forgotten about.
